Doodle Bugs of Dough and Foil
By OreO
You can make items such as birds, butterflies, spiders, bees, or whatever you have in mind!
Materials
- 2 cups of flour
- 1 cup of salt
- water (between 1/2 and 3/4 of a cup)
- A bowl
- Pipe cleaners
- Glue
- Tempera
- Shellac
- Tissue Paper
- 2 tablespoons of powdered alum ( you can buy it in a drugstore)
Mix flour, salt and alum in a bowl. Slowly mix in water. When the dough is thick and soft like modeling clay, it is ready to use. Roll some of it into a ball, and shape it like a bug. Cut up pipe cleaners for legs and feelers. STick th em into the sides of the dough bug. Bend pipe cleaners into the shape of wings. Glue tissue paper over the pipe cleaners. Stick the wings into the bug. When the clay has dried for about a day paint it with tempera paint. Cover the colors with shellac.
Aluminum Foil Modeling
Aluminum foil can be rolled up and pressed into animal shapes. Add wings to aluminum foil animals and bugs the same way that you added them to the dough bug.
