It's Christmas Time - Tree Decorations

    By Mick

Some easy to make decorations for your christmas tree. And don't they just look great.

What You Need.

3 cups of plain flour
1 cup of salt
1 teaspoon of glycerine
water to mix
Mixing Bowl/s
Biscuit or play dough cutters, or other things to form shapes.
A Skewer or knitting needle or other utensil to make the holes.
Paints and brushes Glitter (Optional)
Wrapping ribbon or wool/string if ribbon not available.
A little bit of your time, a sprinkling of fun, and lots of christmas cheer!

Let's Get To It

Mix the flour, salt and glycerine. Add water stirring as you go until the mixture is fairly stiff, (much like bread dough). Now take the mixture outside to where you have set up a table or similar for the children and let them knead it until it is smooth then they can roll or flatten it out to a sheet about 2 cm (1" aprox will do) thick.
Now let them cut out shapes, either using the biscuit/play dough cutters, or let them make freehand shapes by using a BLUNT knife or spatula. Once each shape has been made, they then take the skewer or other utensil to make a hole near the top of each shape so it can be hung.

PARENTS: Put the shapes on a baking tray and bake slowely in a cool oven until they are hard. Take out and let cool properly.

Now that they have been hardened, and cooled, the children can have fun painting their decorations with their favourite christmas colours. Adding some glitter while the paint is still wet if it is available. once the paints have dried, the wrapping ribbon can be threaded through the hole in the decoration to allow it to be hung on the tree.

Now the only thing left to do, is hang them on the tree.
Doesn't it look great with their own creations hanging on the tree rather than shop brought ones?

Mick, you're a god-send. My mother did this with my brothers and when we were young. She had lost the recipe and couldn't find it anywhere. I've been wanting to do this with my children for a couple of years now. Thanks!
